Information We Do Not Collect
We are built on a no-data-collection principle. We do not collect, store, or transmit:
- Your name, email address, or account credentials
- Your bank account, credit card, or payment information
- Your precise location
- Device identifiers beyond what Apple or Google provide for basic app analytics
- Your purchase history or spending habits outside the current audit session
Information You Provide During an Audit
When you run a purchase audit, you voluntarily enter the name and price of the item you are considering, your approximate monthly income and expenses, and your savings goal and priority level.
This information is processed in-session to generate your AI verdict. It is sent to our AI provider, OpenAI, through an encrypted connection solely to produce your result. It is not stored on our servers after your session ends and is not used to train AI models. Audit history you choose to save is stored locally on your device using AsyncStorage and never leaves your device unless you explicitly export it.
AI Processing
Should I Buy This? uses OpenAI's API to generate spending verdicts. When you submit an audit, the relevant inputs, including the item, price, income, expenses, and goals, are sent to OpenAI over an encrypted HTTPS connection to generate your verdict. OpenAI's data handling is governed by its privacy policy. We use the API under OpenAI's terms, which do not permit training on API inputs.
Subscriptions and Payments
Should I Buy This? offers an optional subscription at $3.99 per month with a 14-day free trial, managed through RevenueCat and processed by Apple or Google.
- We do not handle or store your payment-card details.
- RevenueCat receives an anonymous subscription-status token to verify your entitlement.
- No personally identifiable payment information passes through our systems.
Analytics and Crash Reporting
We may collect anonymous, aggregated usage data, such as how many audits are completed per day, to improve the app. This data contains no personally identifiable information and cannot be traced to an individual user.
If the app crashes, crash logs may be collected automatically by Apple or Google's platforms. These logs contain technical information about the device state and are governed by the respective platform's privacy policies.
Children's Privacy
Should I Buy This? is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children. If you believe a child has provided information, contact Beatrice@shouldibuythis.ai and we will delete it promptly.
Data Security
All data transmitted between the app and our servers uses industry-standard TLS encryption. Since we do not store your financial inputs after a session, there is no persistent financial database containing those inputs.
Your Rights
Because we do not collect personally identifiable information, there is no personal data profile to access, correct, or delete. Your audit history lives on your device and can be cleared at any time from within the app. For privacy concerns or requests, email Beatrice@shouldibuythis.ai.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Continued use of the app after a change constitutes acceptance of the updated policy. We will notify users of material changes through an in-app notice.
